Passenger Productions

Passenger Production was formed in the year 2000 to provide the vehicle to take my play Passengers to the Edinburgh Fringe.

Apart from teenage scribblings, this was the first piece of writing I had put together, and for no particular reason.  My youngest son had become involved in amateur theatre and as I was there anyway I became radio-mike-battery-changer.  Very quickly I was promoted to stage manager. This fast track promotion had more to do with me being the oldest person there than any proven ability.  Yet again, it was to prove to be a steep learning curve for me.

The experience I gained in being part of the running of big musicals like Guys and Dolls and Singing in the Rain was invaluable.  I loved being backstage, and felt completely comfortable in the surroundings.  If there’s one thing I learned about myself in those days it was that, even amid the seemingly chaotic moments of scene changes or the sudden quiet during a running scene, I felt at home there, I always felt there was an overriding calmness in the darkness of the wings.

So when I wrote my play, I didn’t have any fears about putting it on a stage even though no one else had read it.  When the Edinburgh Fringe roadshow came to Glasgow I went along with no expectations, except that I was going along to listen to what they had to say and perhaps get a bit more background to putting on shows, but I definitely, absolutely definitely, wasn’t going to sign up!

To cut a long story short, I signed up and staged Passengers at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2001!

Afterwards I realised I had formed a Production company.  Further work, detailed in other pages followed.
